Roberto HiraishiIt is with deep regret that the IPPO board records the death on August 27, 2006, of one of its valued members, Roberto Hiraishi, founder and editor of Embanews in Brazil.With almost 50 years’ experience in the publishing field, Roberto Hiraishi has dedicated his life to the packaging market. He has been an IPPO member since 1994.
Sixteen years ago, Roberto was the founding editor of Embanews magazine and Embalagem & Cia, both specialised publications for the packaging sector. He has played an important role in the Brazilian packaging market; and his entrepreneurial spirit has sparked many successful initiatives such as the creation of the Brazilian Packaging Awards, one of the main awards dedicated to packaging innovation, technology and quality in Brazil’s packaging sector.

He also played a role in the incorporation of ‘Production Lines of Packaging’ within the Brasilpack exhibition organised by Alcantara Machado, an initiative that saw the demonstration of packaging line workflows in real time.

Roberto’s most recent contribution has been the creation of Packnews Latina, a publication in Spanish, distributed throughout the Latin American countries from Argentina to Mexico.

For six years, Roberto served as president of ABTG, the Brazilian Association of Graphic Technicians, and for two years as president of Embala, the Brazilian Society of Packaging Professionals. He has also served as president of the Brazilian Institute of Packaging Professionals.

As Liliam Benzi, past IPPO president, sums up: ‘Certainly Roberto’s most remarkable achievement was the foundation of Embanews – one of the most recognised packaging publications in Brazil. He has always maintained that it’s important to pursue objectives with calmness and serenity. Personally, I have never seen him angry – the oriental way of seeing things was his trademark. In that he leaves a strong message for all packaging professionals.’
